Few people really make it in life. The vast majority of people are withdrawn and timid - they are not able to have a lot of friends. Young men are not able to get dates easily and young ladies are unable to impress, all because they lack self-confidence. Can you tolerate a public speaker whose style does not have conviction? Timid public speakers are not able to captivate their audiences. They are unable to be compelling. In short, their speeches are not able to have the essential pep and feeling to be exciting and wind up falling flat. A lack of self-confidence is what stops most people from being confident, successful and ultimately well-off in life. However, if you can recognize that you lack the confidence you require, you can work on building it up and making your dreams for success become a reality. Defining Self-Confidence If you can realise the qualities of an individual brimming with confidence, this should aid you succeed in building your self-confidence. How do you know that an individual is confident? It's easy, really. If you are well-balanced and self-confident, you are assertive, your body language communicates your self-assurance, you keep your head high, you speak with self-assurance but not being pushy, your mental attitude is confident, you pursue your goals with determination - well-prepared to take on all obstacles because you don't avoid taking calculated chances whenever required. And when ever you make mistakes, you readily own up to them. Your goals are set realistically, keeping in mind a honest assessment of your strengths, your weaknesses and your skills and talents. Building Self-Assurance While attempting to build confidence, you probably will have a few questions to ask yourself. Is it possible to build self-confidence? If by nature you are not normally endowed with self-assurance, you may believe you remain that way forever. Not necessarily. You can actually take reasonable but reachable steps in order to build good confidence. However, self-assurance and success are interdependent. Commonly, you can't succeed without self-confidence playing a role in being part of your efforts and without success you can't have self-confidence. That being the situation, how do you establish self-assurance? Good question. Start by setting yourself a small enough goal that you can achieve it without too much difficulty. Then accomplish it and watch your self-assurance develop. Repeat the steps, every time making the goal a little tougher than the lat time and gradually build your self-confidence step by step.
