How To Do A Reverse Number Lookup

By: Adolph K. Reekie

There are times when a reverse number lookup can come in handy. Maybe a strange number keeps appearing on your caller ID, but they never leave a message. Or perhaps you stumble on an old friend's number but want to make sure it still belongs to them before calling. Or maybe some troublemaker is making prank phone calls and you want to know who it is.

If you've ever found yourself in one of these situations, you can conduct a reverse number lookup right from your own home. I'll give you two different methods to try. The first is free but very limited. The second will cost a small fee, but provides much more information.

First the free method. Simply go to Google or your favorite search engine and run a search for the phone number. You may get lucky and find the information without having to pay a dime. It's possible the owner of the number posted his or her contact info somewhere on a website, forum, or blog and it was picked up by the search engine.

But be aware that the search findings may be outdated or incorrect. Any name listed could belong to someone who owned the number in the past. Or there could be no findings at all. These limitations make this search method barely worth the trouble.

A more reliable method is to use a reverse number lookup service. You can expect to pay a small fee, but the odds of success are far greater.

All you have to do is enter the phone number and let the service do the work for you. Typically, you're able to run an initial search for free, but you'll have to pay to see the full phone report. Expect to pay around $15-19 for a single report. If you plan on looking up multiple numbers, it makes more sense to sign up for a lifetime subscription. For around $39-49, you can run as many reverse number lookups as you want.
