The Magic of Getting Started

By: Matthew Wong

A author once alleged, "The shores of fortune are covered with the stranded wrecks of men of brilliant ability but who have lacked courage, faith and decision and have therefore perished in sight of more resolute but less capable adventurers, who succeeded in making port."

The majority of the time we start the beginning of the year with dreams, goals and aspirations. One regular occurrence is that most people, by the end of the first or second month, have totally detoured and forgotten about all they have designed to perform.

When we have something we want accomplish, it is our style to look at the obstacles we have to defeat instead of looking at what needs to be accomplished. When we list everything we need for a particular task/vision, we get overwhelmed and will desire to delay till we have everything at our disposal. If this is your attitude to pursuing your visions, you may well NEVER start at all and procrastination will for all time be something you will indulge in. You will be waiting for a advance that may NEVER come and you will continue postponing what you are meant to do.

When God told Moses he will release the Israelites, the query He asked Moses was, What is in your hand? Moses wouldnt have assumed the stick he had been holding for years would be enough to get on track the development of liberating the Israelites. The sling in Davids hand was sufficient to destroy Goliath off the face of the world. He didnt require all the armour or weaponry in Israel to exterminate Goliath, he went with what he had and victory was his.

If the above-named had looked at the task ahead of them and compared it with what they have, they wouldnt have become great and Insignificance would have been their lot in this life.

When God has planted a vision in your heart, the first thing for you to do, is to Initiate! I have heard people say it is impotant to count the costs of your actions. I don’t disagree with that but counting the cost in order for you to put off action will do you no profit at all. If you will need approximately a million dollars to start a project, instead of waiting for a timely leg up, won’t it be wiser for you to initiate small than work your way up?

One important thing I have learnt about taking action is that you never know where you will get to until you start to act. The leap forward you may be expecting may even be tied to your getting started. I have seen a man who started his firm with a mere $650 and has grown it to over $250 million. I believe the man wouldnt have finished anything if he was to look at all the things he would need for the business to get to the level he wants it to be. So if there is anything you want to fulfil this year, dont permit anything dissuade you from beginning. You don’t require all the resources in the world to get on course, just resolve that you will do something and DO IT At any rate.

If a snail and a rabbit initiate a race, the rabbit will get to the finishing line earlier than the snail, but the snail will also get to the finish line Sooner or later. The fact is that no matter how long it took the two of them, they both crossed the finish line. Others may have all they considered necessary, but that shouldnt discourage you from starting out on your own. We all have separate races to compete and our paces won’t certainly be the same.
