Why Guided Meditation Could Be For You

By: Cornish Healer Robbie Wright

With roots in western culture, guided meditation has traditionally been used by people who desire to develop their psychic abilities and lead a more spiritual life. In recent years, guided meditation has become much more popular and it is now being adopted by a more mainstream audience. These people have come to realize that this type of meditation is relaxing and enjoyable.

Traditional meditation is all about calming every part of your psyche, but guided meditation is intended to take its listener on a visualized journey. Guided meditations are perfect for the large number of people whose minds take off in all different directions. These people find it difficult to calm their thoughts, but a guided meditation gives them something to think about. Hearing a soothing voice combined with some soft background music helps distract their typically overactive minds and lets them slip into gentle relaxation.

Guided meditation is also particularly beneficial for people who experience stress. The visualized journey that these people take becomes a welcome distraction and a temporary escape from their daily struggles. Journeys taken through guided meditation are able to transport the listener to distant magical lands. More experienced individuals can use these journeys to assist them in making connections to their Higher Self, their Spirit Guides and their Divine Creator.

A little time spent preparing will help you get the most out of your guided meditation. Set aside a period of time when you are certain you will not be disturbed. Turn off the telephone and settle into a comfortable chair or your bed. An experienced guide will lead you into a deep state of relaxation before gently bringing you back to reality. Being disturbed in the middle of your meditation can lead to a bit of disorientation. Having a glass of water nearby is always a good idea as it can help ground you, focus your attention and bring you back to the present when your meditation is finished.

You will benefit more as you become more experienced with guided meditations. This technique is used by many people to develop their psychic and healing abilities as well as provide a link with their higher selves and spirit guides.

You will commonly find guided meditations that have been developed to help people cope with everyday concerns such as money worries, stress and difficulty sleeping. More advanced meditations have been developed to help people cope with bereavement, to overcome addictions and even to ease and prepare the transition for those with a terminal illness. Other guided meditations are created simply to take you on a wonderful journey perhaps you would like to visit the lost city of Atlantis, explore an Enchanted Castle or take a Shamanic Journey. Increasingly popular during the difficult times that many people are facing right now are healing angel meditations. Experienced guides will prepare you for your journey and get you to a destination before leaving you for a time, this allows you to explore on your own and means that your journey will be different each time you use the meditation.

Whatever your motivation for going on a guided journey, spiritual enlightenment or maybe just simple relaxation, one thing for sure is that you are going to feel less stressed and more at peace afterwards.
